Interpretations

• According to some neoPagan beliefs, The King (the fertility of the Earth from the Sun), who was maimed at Lughnassadh, dies by the hand of his Tanaise, or heir, who then begins his reign as the Lord of Misrule. This King will be reborn at Midwinter, to defeat the Lord of Misrule in the Spring.  The winter King, shines brightly but is not a fertile sun.
