They have a distinctive hornlike armor plating covering the upper and side surfaces of their bodies as well as part of their legs and underbellies. Armadillos can be highly aggressive, and if threatened they may leap directly at their opponents. However, Armadillos can pull in their feet and snouts if they are seriously endangered, forming an armored ball. The nine-banded Armadillo can hold its breath for up to six minutes because of its highly efficient respiratory and circulatory systems. Except during their mating season, Armadillos are solitary animals. The nine-banded is found from the United States to South America. All other Armadillos live in Central and South America. ============= I. The Beaver Old World population is now found mainly in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Poland, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, and Norway. The New World populations are in the woodlands from northern Mexico to the Arctic Circle. Beavers feed on marsh grasses, roots, barks, and twigs. While their hind feet are webbed, they can use their forepaws like hands. A pair of musk glands, or castors, produce castoreum, a scented oil that is sought after for its multiple uses. The Beaver's oversized front teeth enable it to gnaw down trees for building dams, island lodges and canals. The Beaver's large flat tail and webbed hind feet are used for swimming, and they are able to remain submerged for up to 15 minutes. When in danger, a beaver will slap the water with its tail as it dives, as a warning to other beavers. The lodge has underwater entrances for safety, and a large dry room inside. ============= I. The Indian Cobra is capable of "spitting" its venom up to 2 meters away. In the case of the larger Cobras, they can lunge forward while spitting, hitting targets 3 meters away. They have a tendency to aim for the eyes, and the venom in contact with the eyes causes intense pain (DV4 IV, for each second it remains in contact, cumulative). After a number of seconds equal to the victim's Stamina, the Lethal portion of the damage becomes permanent, which can cause blindness. If the poison comes in contact with the skin at any point, it will cause DV1 V per second impairment due to pain it remains in contact. Cobras are famous for their use by snake charmers, with the Indian Cobra an especial favorite. They are deaf like all snakes, and daylight hampers their ability to strike accurately and quickly (-2 Per), but they can still respond to visual cues. The Copperhead has a red-brown head and alternating light and dark bands along its body. The pit organ on the lower part of the face is sensitive to detect temperature differences of thousandths of a degree. The front-facing sense organs are capable of detecting differences between the infrared heat source and its immediate surroundings, and producing a stereoscopic image that allows the snake to track and strike accurately, even in total darkness. It is feared as a highly venomous reptile. The smaller Arizona Coral Snake (Micruroides Euryxanthus) is found in southern Arizona and northern Mexico. Coral snakes prey mostly on reptiles, particularly other snakes. They are not often seen, although they are diurnal. It is believed that the habit is an outlet for the frustrated behavior related to catching aquatic prey in the wild. If the temperature drops consistently below freezing, a raccoon will become dormant, spending weeks in a deep sleep, but not in true hibernation. From there, they eventually spread to the rest of the world. These rodents can appear in numbers from 1-100. They often carry diseases, such as the Great Pestilence (aka the "Black Plague"). The front-facing sense organs are capable of detecting differences between the infrared heat source and its immediate surroundings, and producing a stereoscopic image that allows the snake to track and strike accurately, even in total darkness. Skills: Brawling: 14 Climb: 2 Hide: 10 The European Viper, or Common Viper or Adder is found throughout the continent of Europe, from the Arctic Circle to the Carpathians, from Britain to Northern Asia. It is most often found in moors, meadows hills and forests. They are mostly ground dwellers, and subsist on small vertebrates such as lizards, small mammals such as rodents, and birds. Its bite is rarely fatal to humans. It may hibernate during the winter. The threat posture of the Viper is similar to that of its distant relative, the Rattlesnake; ie, coiled and hissing. Their preferred form of attack is to lie in wait, then ambush and strike their prey; preferring to wait for their victim to die, rather than to actively pursue it. Vipers are somewhat drab in coloring, ranging from gray to white, with a Black zig-zag pattern along its back. ============= I.
