PSY 4093/6493 Children and Families with Special Needs

The focus of this course is people with disabilities, their families, and the professionals who provide the services and support that enhance their lives. A nested focus of the child within the family and the family within the community is presented in a lifespan framework.

PSY 4973 Contemporary Families

This course utilizes a psychological perspective to focus on issues facing today's families. Emphasis is on the family as an interactive system and families in society.

PSY 7703 Child Development

This course provides an examination of child development from the prenatal period through adolescence. Physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development are addressed wit a focus on typical development, developmental problems, risk and prevention. Interaction between the child or adolescent and the family as well as the community and society are stressed. Societal risk for children and families is also addressed.

PSY 7973 Disability Issues

This course provides an interdisciplinary approach to disability with a lifespan focus. Historical, social, political and legal issues related to disability provide the framework for the course. Issues impacting the individual and the family and their interface with the community are addressed at each life stage.
