Dan on "Cat People"
This is a darn good one (Note the high percentage of recommendations).
It feels a lot more like one of our first few albums. In fact, tracks 1 and 8 were recorded using our
old guitar with no high E string, which is how much of our oldest stuff was recorded.
Much of it is very silly like "Lucy the Llama,"
"Cat People," and especially "Whose Pants Am I Wearing" where I put myself in the position where I have
to improvise. The plan was to do it on the first take so that I didn't ever really have time to think of
rhymes beforehand. I don't recommend it because it's not funny, but it is sweet and innocent. It really
feels like something we would have done seven years ago. "Summer Fun" is a very fine track. It has a nice little
island feel to it, and Stephen's voice has never sounded better. The new theme song is the very first parody
that we have done in our existance. I think it effectively pokes fun at how ridiculous Bob Dylan can be.
There's some pretty sweet drum machine on the exceptionally long tracks "Lady of the Night" and "We Have Got
a Good Thing." The latter never sounded quite like we wanted it to, but this is as close as we got. The former
is an imaculate tale of prostitution during which the Bups have never sounded so beautiful. If you're
looking for dirty jokes, "Dead Fucking Society" and "Down at the Saloon" should suffice. And perhaps the
best song in recent memory, the touching "You're Such an Inspiration." If you dig cheese, you'll eat this
up.
